Richard Franklin is an Assistant Professor of Business Administration in the Decision, Operation, and Information Technologies area at the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. He joined the Katz faculty in September of 1997, after five years with Federated Investors, one of the largest mutual fund complexes in the country. As an Assistant Vice President in the Advanced Information Systems division at Federated, he was responsible for information technology development and support for systems used by over 1500 people. Before joining Federated Investors, he consulted for Westinghouse, Alcoa, and U.S. Steel.
His areas of interest include e-commerce, business area analysis, business process design, relational data modeling, work flow, IT Service Management and ITIL, IT in Financial Services and graphical user interface design. He continues to consult in these areas for the financial services and other industries.
Professor Franklin holds a Master of Science in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh. He also holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in music from Carnegie-Mellon University.
Professor Franklin maintains his interest in music via recording and composition. He is a member of ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) and his jazz compositions and recordings have been featured on radio, satellite and Internet stations in the USA and around the world. His CDs have been purchased and downloaded from iTunes and other online music sites by jazz-lovers all over the world.
