--French Deputy Dominique Dord, looking stupid.
"Is Wolfowitz really so ignorant of history as to believe the Iraqis would welcome us as 'their
hoped-for liberators'?"
"[I]f President Bush thinks our invasion and occupation will go smoothly because Iraqis will
welcome us, then [he] is deluding himself."

![]() War and Remembrance
Friday before last, that would have been March the 28th, I was having lunch on campus at a table that quickly filled up with a selection of my left wing so-called "colleagues." The war was barely a week old. One of said colleagues opened his New York Times--the Marxist's bible--and proudly announced, "Well...I see that the war has bogged down!" Not to be out-done, and frothing at the mouth with rage, I couldn't be contained. "Bogged down!!???" I screamed, "Our armor has travelled over 300 miles, captured one third of the country, destroyed untold Iraqui units, taken 3000 prisoners, all the southern oil fields, moved faster, farther, destroyed more of the enemy than any military force in history, more than even the vaunted George Patton, and we're bogged down????!!!! May our military always be 'bogged down' in this manner!" What followed was a screaming match not worth repeating here. But, it illustrates my point about the forgetfulness of the left--my "colleague" had forgotten that the war was barely a week old. Even the Nazis blitzkrieg took six weeks to find all the French willing to surrender, and even then they only occuppied half the country. We've liberated Bahgdad after 17 days. Tell me, would you ask an 18 year old for medical advice? How about financial advice? Where to buy a car? A home? No, of course not. I wouldn't even ask an 18 year old for advice on how to treat acne. So, why take an 18 year old seriously when he has something to say about international affairs, like the war against Iraq? But that's exactly what the media has been doing for the last month or more as we're regaled with footage of protestors at colleges all over the country. I paused to watch the news in North Carolina last month as I was driving to South Carolina. 15 18 year olds stripped off their clothes at the University of North Carolina, and then danced around a flag pole to protest what was then the coming war. Now, if you're going to protest the war by stripping naked, why can't we have some people who are really worth it do the stripping, like the models of Victoria's Secret? That's a protest I'd watch. On the other hand, have you heard about the Rally for America? In Atlanta last month it drew over 20,000 people, all supporting our troops, our president, and our foreign policy. No? Didn't hear about it? It doesn't surprise me. 15, 18 year old nincompoops whom I wouldn't even ask for directions on how to fall down get news coverage. 20,000 people supporting our president get ignored. That's media alzheimer's of the highest degree. Oh, and the Rally for America didn't end in Atlanta. It's been taking place in every major city across the country for a month now. But of course you won't find it covered by CNN, our own Communist News Network, nor the p.m.s. of [P]MSNBC. How about remembering this: Remember Haiti? Remember Mr. Clinton, the then coward-in-chief sitting in front of the television camera and telling the Haitian generals, "You're tahme is uhph." Remember the squeaky voiced woman, a member of the congressional black caucus, saying on national television, "We'es gotta go in now." I remember something else about our Haitian adventure too--no one protested it. At least, the Communist News Network and its affiliates had nothing to say about any protests of our invasion of Haiti. And why not? Ahhh, you see, that was a "good" invasion, because the philanderer-in-chief was in favor of it! Remember professor DeGenerate, errr...., excuse me, DeGenova? About two weeks ago at a "teach in" at Columbia University he called or wished for the U.S. military to be bogged down in a "million Mogadishus" in reference to Bill Clinton's abandonment of our Somalia mission and the battle that now goes by the name of 'Black Hawk Down'. Remember--if you're old enough--the 1968 Tet Offensive in Vietnam? I recently saw that touted on the tube as another "fiasco" for the U.S. military. It was just about the time liberals were calling our 300 mile advance into Iraq a "bog down" and the traitor, Peter Arnett, was telling Iraqui television how their "resistance" had been responsible for the "bog down." Both are more examples of the left wing's failure to pick up lots of forget-me-nots. Take professor DeGenerate, errr..., DeGenova. If you've read Mark Bowden's excellent book, Black Hawk Down you will have read him calling the Battle of the Black Sea, as the Mogadishu incident is known, one of the most lop-sided battles ever fought by American military. Heavily outnumbered, and betrayed by Washington, our boys killed, wounded, or maimed, by conservative estimates over 1000 of the enemy and withstood its onslaught in the middle of a viciously hostile urban nightmare. We lost 19 brave soldiers and airmen. What made the battle an apparent loss for us was Bill Clinton's cowardice in ordering the military to cut and run. But weigh our casualties against the enemies--if anything it was a pyrrhic victory for the rag-tag Somalies. So, Prof. DeGenerate wants a million Mogadishus? His arithmetic ain't that good. 19 million Americans might die--6.3 percent of the population-- but over a billion of the enemy will be exterminated. That will be the end of Islam and world terrorism problems. I'm not saying let's bring that on. I'm only pointing out that like most liberals Prof. DeGenerate has a curious inability to see history in its proper perspective. It's a sure bet he doesn't teach mathematics. What about the Tet offensive? Here's liberal alzheimer's again. If you want to get a good perspective on this event, I recommend to you Richard Marcinko's excellent Rogue Warrior. He was there and did it. Sure, the attack took us by surprise, but the price the Viet Cong paid for it was to fall on their sword. Marcinko relates that after the attack was beaten back, Cong activity almost ceased throughout the Mekong Delta. They had shot their wad and decimated their forces in an act of self-cannabalism. In comparison, our losses were minimal. But you don't hear that version, and in 1969 you certainly didn't hear it from the fore-players of [P]MSNBC. It was all touted as a great "victory" for the Marxist enemy. Remember Nancy Smelosi, oops, I mean 'Pelosi'? If you listen to the Communist News Network you might not realize that she's only the minority leader in the House of Representatives. She predicted the deaths of "thousands" of U.S. soldiers in the Iraq war. You might think, from the way the prediction was made, that she was even gleefully contemplating it. I actually think she was. But guess what? It looks like her prediction won't come true--thank God. But I'll make a prediction that will. The press will benignly forget that she ever made that comment, or that liberals predicted the Iraqui populace would "rise up" against our forces and never welcome us as liberators. On FOX news today I saw Iraquis kissing pictures of George Bush. That's my kind of immigrant! Let's get these people over here so they can vote! Oh, yeah, let's remember one more thing. What ever happened to those human shields?
