INTRODUCTION

The Office of the University Registrar, which reports to the Provost, is located on the ground floor of Thackeray Hall in rooms G-1 and G-3.  The Registrar's administrative offices are located on the second floor in 220 Thackeray Hall.

The Office of the University Registrar is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 A.M. to 4:45 P.M. and Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 4:45 P.M.  At the beginning of the fall and spring terms, evening hours are posted and can be found in the current Schedule of Classes.

The Office of the University Registrar, on the Pittsburgh Campus, is under the administration of the University Registrar, not to be confused with academic centers that may have an office "registrar."  The University Registrar is assisted by two Associate Registrars, two Assistant Registrars, and several supervisors and administrative staff members.  Many and diverse duties are carried out by the Office of the University Registrar, including student registration, transcript updates, transcript services, certification services, graduation and diplomas, course and room scheduling, and veterans services.

On the Pittsburgh Campus, the College of General Studies conducts its own admissions and registration activities.

Although each of the University's regional campus registrars operate independently, students enrolled at a regional campus can register for courses on the Pittsburgh Campus and vice versa.  They register at their home campus.  The grade for a course taken at another campus will automatically appear on the student's academic record and transcript at the home campus.

In addition to the possibility of having students from regional campuses in your courses, you may also have students from local colleges and universities enrolled in your courses.  The University of Pittsburgh is a member institution of The Pittsburgh Council of Higher Education (PCHE).  This council, comprised of ten local colleges and universities, offers a cross-registration program to full-time students enrolled in PCHE institutions.  This program permits full-time undergraduate and graduate students to enroll in a course at another PCHE institution.  There is no exchange of money; and the grade earned is transferred to the home institution when final grades are available.  The act of cross-registering does not result in a transcript for the student at the host institution.

You may also have students in your classes who are enrolled in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, Learning Solutions at the College of General Studies.  These participants are not officially enrolled University students, however, they must be admitted into this program in order to attend your course.  They do not process a University registration form nor will their names appear on your class and grade rosters.  They are charged nominal fees to participate in this program.  Students enrolled in this program "audit" the course and do not earn any credits. Generally, they do not participate in homework and exams.
