ENGR 0715: Engineering Applications for Society

By Rory Coble

About Me:

Hello, my name is Rory Coble, and welcome to my personal webpage. I am a graduate of East Pennsboro Area High School, which is located in the town I grew up in, Enola. Well actually I grew up in Summerdale and Mechanicsburg, which are near Enola. For those unfamiliar with any of the above names it is easiest to think somewhere in central Pennsylvania near Harrisburg. I decided to attend the University of Pittsburgh after several months of consideration. After weighing the facts I came to the conclusion that the engineering program at the University of Pittsburgh was my best option. Overall I decided to major in engineering because I wanted to be a problem solver, and be able to create positive change. Currently I am thinking about majoring in Engineering Physics as it seems that it will be the best lead into research into the field of nanotechnology. My interest in nanotechnology mostly derives from the fact that I want to be on the cutting edge of technology, which at the moment seems to be where nanotechnology is heading. When not studying I enjoy time spent with friends over video games, and other recreational activities. I especially love going to musical performances where dancing is prominent. Due to our enjoyment from the game Assassin’s Creed some of my friends and I have taken an interest in an activity known as parkour or free-running, which deals with the idea of climbing and jumping from everyday objects. Time spent alone is also enjoyed with some reading; I have just begun reading the His Dark Materials books. However my favorite book at this time is Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, which I read for the FHEP Honor’s Seminar first semester.
