Annual Planning
At the University of Pittsburgh,
faculty, staff, and students are actively involved in the planning and
budgeting process of their schools through their Planning and Budgeting
Committees. Each year, deans and regional campus presidents in the Provost’s
area then submit an annual plan to the Provost. These plans identify the
schools’ goals, their strategies for reaching those goals, identified benchmarks
of progress toward goals (both school-specific goals as well as University
goals such as diversity), and discussions of such things as curricular
use of instructional technology and prudent management of fiscal resources.
The University’s academic units’
strategic planning efforts start with the University’s stated mission to
provide high-quality undergraduate programs and superior graduate programs;
to engage in research, artistic, and scholarly activities that advance
learning; to transfer knowledge in science, technology, and health care;
to offer continuing education programs; and to relate to the community
of which we are a part.
