Profile of Matt Zuwiala, Intern, Larson O'Brien Marketing Group, 12/08
by Graham Thomas

PPW/Writing Center Publicity Intern

Matt is a senior majoring in Corporate and Community Relations who decided to complete the PPW certificate for the great internships offered through the program. During the fall 2008 term, Matt took an internship with Larson O’Brien Marketing Group. Larson O’Brien does advertising, public relations and interactive for architectural manufacturing companies. Matt’s internship consisted primarily of writing articles and press releases, but the routine changed frequently with new projects assigned everyday.

Since most of the employees at Larson O’Brien are in their twenties, Matt fit in well. Matt especially enjoyed the laid back environment and even got to practice his ping-pong skills at work. Also, Matt found the internship very flexible and never felt overwhelmed or pressured. Matt explains, “Surprisingly, I actually liked going to work. I loved walking in to work and hanging out with everyone and writing stuff the company would actually use.”

Overall, Matt felt the internship was completely worth the experience. Although he had a tight schedule with classes and another paid job, Matt was able to balance all three because of the flexibility Larson O’Brien offers. Matt’s advice to future interns is, “Don’t be afraid to ask questions and don’t be too hard on yourself when you get criticized. These people do this for a living; take their advice seriously.”
