PPW/Writing Center Publicity Intern

I am currently a Communications major and the intern for the PPW Certificate Program. Although I’m only a sophomore, I wanted to gain writing experience and I assumed this internship would provide me this. The reason I chose to intern with PPW was because it allowed me to stay on campus.

This semester, I had a variety of projects. In October, I planned a panel event luncheon, “Writing in the Public Interest.” I also helped design flyers and publicize other PPW events throughout the semester. One of my other big projects was developing an Internship Guide for PPW students. Hopefully, this booklet will ease the internship site selection process for many students. For the winter edition of Write Now, the PPW newsletter, I conducted several interviews and wrote articles.

I would have to say the high point of this internship was the day of the panel event. This clarified to me that I want to pursue a career in event planning. Next semester, I will be interning at The Event Group, a full-service event production company.

This past semester, I felt like I was part of a community. I had the opportunity to work with many talented writers and I appreciate the knowledge I gained from them. Overall, my writing has developed and strengthened by interning with the PPW program. I’m grateful for all the experiences this past semester.
