PPW/Writing Center Publicity Intern

Jamie Hribal, a senior here at Pitt, interns with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She majors in English Writing (Nonfiction) and joined the PPW program “to make an otherwise unemployable education useful in the real world.” Jamie says she also decided to complete the certificate because of the internship opportunity.

At the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Jamie wrote wish stories as her main task. She admits, “It got very old, fast!” However, the more everyday work earned her the opportunity to take on other tasks such as writing press releases and assisting her boss with various PR and event planning responsibilities.

Like most seniors, Jamie’s schedule is extremely demanding. “I leave my house at 10 a.m. and don’t get home until midnight or 1 a.m.,” she explains. Because of time restrictions, Jamie wishes she could be compensated for her time at the Foundation, but still appreciates the experience.

In her final semester, Jamie hopes to intern at a for-profit site such as The Key Group, a consulting firm, or at a more corporate nonprofit like WQED Multimedia. After Jamie graduates, she plans to leave the state and obtain a job related to her major.
