Managed Mailing Lists

A mailing list is a list of e-mail addresses to which the same information is being sent. These lists are created by an owner, or administrator, who will invite others to join a specific mailing list. Users may subscribe or unsubscribe to existing lists to review e-mail updates and information of common interest.

Two popular types of mailings lists are announcements and discussions. Announcement lists enable one person or group to send announcements to an assigned group, whereas discussion lists allow a group to discuss topics amongst themselves.

This service is designed to provide managed mailing list capability to users at the University of Pittsburgh. Anyone can subscribe to these lists, but they can be "owned" only by users at Pitt.

If you are interested in creating a Managed Mailing List, please contact the Technology Help Desk at 412 624-HELP [4357].

The University has recently upgraded to Mailman for its Managed Mailing Lists.  If you are currently using the Majordomo service and are searching for instructions about using Mailman, please contact the Technology Help Desk at 412 624-HELP [4357].
