Internship Opportunities

Internships are probably the most important experiences you can have while in college.  They are a way of figuring what you might like to do for a living and what you definitely do not want to do.  They help you to find out your strengths and weaknesses.  They develop your job skills.  They allow you to network for your future in the job market.  Although it is not currently required, History Majors ought to perform at least one internship during their college career.  If you would like to perform a history internship with the National Parks Service, the Johnstown Area Heritage Association, or the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, or other local agencies contact Dr. Newman.  Interships can be arranged as either History 1820 Directed Research for 1-6 credits f9r an A-F grade, or as Social Science 1910 Internship for 1-6 credits for a Pass/Fail grade.  Be careful what you register for--SocSci 1910 will NOT count as a history elective toward your B.A. in History, it will only apply toward your Social Science Distribution credits.  Here are some links to sites that UPJ students have performed internships:

Johnstown Flood National Memorial Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum Blair County Historical Society
Allegheny Portage Mainline Canal Railroad Old Bedford Village Greenwood Furnace State Park
Johnstown Area Heritage Association Somerset Historical Center West Overton Musuem
Fort Ligonier
