William N. Tilchin

"President Theodore Roosevelt:
Steward of the American People"

William N. Tilchin will deliver a 50 minute biographical presentation entitled "President Theodore Roosevelt:

Steward of the American People."  Professor Tilchin will focus on Theodore Roosevelt's presidential stewardship of the American people through his efforts in environmental and consumer protection, labor negotiation, and diplomacy. Throughout his presentation, Professor Tilchin will highlight "TR's philosophy of good citizenship and his concept of presidential stewardship."

                    William Tilchin earned his B.A. and M.A. in history from Michigan State University, and received his Ph.D. from Brown University in 1992.  Since 1994, he has been a History Professor at Boston University in the College of General Studies, where he teaches courses in Twentieth Century American history.  Prior to joining the faculty at BU, Professor Tilchin taught American history at Rhode Island College and at Brown University.  Professor Tilchin's teaching career began, however, teaching secondary students at Providence Country Day School.

    Professor Tilchin is the author of a number of scholarly publications, including: Theodore Roosevelt and the British Empire: A Study in Presidential Statecraft (St. Martin's, 1997), "Theodore Roosevelt and the Spanish-American War in Historical Perspective," Social Science Record (Vol 35, 1998), and "Theodore Roosevelt, Anglo-American Relations, and the Jamaica Incident of 1907," Diplomatic History (Vol 19, 1995), among other titles.
