PLU General
Meeting Noon Eberly 325
Holiday party
planning
Katherine Stone will be the “short arm” for the ticket
sales and will be in charge of the camera.
Holiday Party will be Thursday December 11th
at 6pm unless the staff gets in touch about attending, maybe the party will
be earlier, but not likely.
Future social
events
Ice skating in January.
Bowling, skiing/snowtubing; we need more information/discussion about
costs and where we want to go.
Probably talk further in a January meeting.
We will have another happy hour at the end of the
spring semester, because the happy hour last night was a great success.
Grad Expo
Jessica Sarver is on the committee to plan the grad
expo, which takes place in March.
It is an opportunity to present a paper or poster, and get judged,
there are prizes. Abstracts are
due January 16, 2009, and may be submitted online.
They need people to judge.
Would look good on a resume.
There is also an idea of forming your own panel, for
example, with other labs/departments via collaborations.
Mentoring
Dr. Grabowski got in touch about mentoring high school
students doing science fair projects.
The mentors would give advice and guidance.
He may come and talk to us at the next meeting or by email.
A list is passed around, for people to sign up if they are
interested.
Philips Lecture
Dr. Hector Abruña from Cornell University will be
coming. Kristi O’Neal is the
student host so get in touch with her if you are interested in meeting with
him, or doing a presentation at the student breakfast.
Other Business
Wendy Lampart brings up participation in the
pre-seminar talks, giving basic introduction to research.
She passes around a sign-up sheet.
Meeting concluded at 12:33 pm.
