Middle School Engineering Day and Girls Engineering in Middle School

Middle School Engineering Day, or MSED, is a free event for middle schoolers of any gender. Students are invited to participate in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities. Parents are invited to view a presentation on the various engineering fields and the benefits of giving their children a head start in being involved in STEM early in their education. MSED is held on a Saturday in the fall semester at the University of Pittsburgh.
Girls Engineering in Middle School, or GEMS, is very similar to MSED but is a girls-only event that puts an emphasis on equal representation of women in engineering. GEMS is held on a Saturday in the spring semester at the University of Pittsburgh.
Students have previously taken in part in activities such as Roller Coaster Engineering, Egg Drop, and Magnetic Goo.
