Mentorship Program

The University of Pittsburgh Society of Women Engineers mentoring program partners freshman and new members with a current upperclassman. Through a series of social events, the mentee will have the opportunity to bond with an upperclassman and pose any questions they have to their mentor.

Past Mentor Events have included Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Game, Pitt Panthers Men's Basketball Games, bowling, and cookie decorating!

Pitt SWE Activities

One of SWE's most popular events! The Dinnerview is an opportunity for female engineering students to get acquainted with the job interviewing process. Engineering Professionals and Human Resource Representatives from local companies come to the University of Pittsburgh to talk with SWE over dinner. Following dinner, representatives are available for resume critiques and mock interviews. This is an amazing opportunity for students to make company contacts, improve their interviewing skills, polish their resumes and learn helpful hints on what to do and what not to do in professional situations.

General Body Meetings
PittSWE holds bi-monthly general body meetings. Each meeting discusses a certain topic of interest.

Some of these topics include but are not limited to :

Undergraduate Student Panel - Allows freshman to ask upperclassmen questions about choosing majors, housing, and life at Pitt.

Stress and Relaxation Night/yoga - Allows the opportunity for students to take a step back from the stress of engineering and relax their minds, and bodies. Students learn breathing and muscle relaxation techniques, eat cookies, receive massages and make stress balls.

Ice Cream Socials - Allows girls from SWE and Phi Sigma Rho (a Pitt engineering sorority) to mingle and cool off with tasty sundaes and Rita's Italian Ice.

Resume and Interviewing Skills - Allows the opportunity to have resumes reviewed and practice interviewing skills

Local Company Presentations and "Evening with Industry" - Engineering companies from the Pittsburgh area come in and give presentations about their company and about professional . Companies for the Fall Semester include: Mitsubishi Electric Power, Turner Construction, PNC Financing, Westinghouse, and PennDOT.

Social Events
Past events include engineering challenges, Pittsburgh Light Up Night, yoga night, and ice skating. Engineering challenges, such as an egg drop, provide an opportunity for SWE members to work together to protect an egg from falling out of a three story building. Pittsburgh Light Up Night is an annual event marking the unveiling of the downtown holiday displays and a Zambelli fireworks show.
