Letter from the Presidents

Welcome to the University of Pittsburgh's Society of Women Engineers' Website!

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) aspires to provide female engineering students opportunities to advance into their future careers and become successful leaders in their fields.

PittSWE provides ample opportunities for students to network, develop career paths, and integrate into being a student at the University of Pittsburgh. Many opportunities exist for leadership positions, mentorship programs, and outreach. Events such as the Girl Scout Engineering Day and Middle School Engineering Day reach out to younger girls (elementary and middle school), while SWEepover encourages graduating high school seniors to consider Pitt as an ideal location to continue their education.

Some additional events include resume workshops, company visits, and student panels. We work hard to provide many chances for students at Pitt to interact with companies at our meetings, at site locations, and at our Dinnerview events. SWE also participates in volunteering events, including planning blood drives and participating in Pitt Make A Difference Day.

Please explore the website to find more information about becoming a National SWE member, our events, and how to win a free trip to the SWE national conference in Chicago, Illinois!

SWEepover

The primary purpose of the SWEepover is to help admitted female high school seniors experience life as a female engineering student at our diverse and energetic campus. This program helps students learn more about the fields of engineering and what life at Pitt is like in a two-day, one night experience. The 25-30 visiting girls are paired with freshmen and sophomore engineering hosts and spend in the night in an on-campus dorm. Various activities include campus tours, engineering lab tours, student panel Q&A, dinner at Joe Mama's, and game night at the Nordy's. The overnight stay always precedes a Day for Admitted Students which includes a Swanson School of Engineering presentation, campus walking tour, and Discover Pittsburgh bus tour.
