The University of Pittsburgh is proactively positioning its network as a
critical enabler of its institutional mission. Membership in Internet2
is one of the ways in which the University of Pittsburgh is influencing
and participating in the future of the Internet.

The University of Pittsburgh's network, PittNet, provides service to
32,000 undergraduate and graduate students and over 9,000 faculty and
staff. On the Pittsburgh campus over 70 buildings are connected across
132 acres. PittNet provides access through over 22,000 Ethernet and
serial ports and 800 modems. Also on campus is the University of
Pittsburgh Medical Center, one of the nation's largest and most highly
respected centers in the U.S. The center includes the University of
Pittsburgh's six schools of the health sciences, five hospitals, and
