The University of Pittsburgh-Sonny Rollins International Jazz Archives house important artifacts from the world of Jazz, including original manuscripts, historic recordings, photographs, autographed concert posters, musical instruments and personal items donated by Jazz pioneers and their families. It is one of the premier collections of Jazz-related memorabilia in the World. Highlights of the collection include a letter from Kenny Clarke to Charlie Parker, an original painting by Miles Davis, and Sonny Rollins' saxophone.

The Archives also publish a yearly journal, International Jazz Archives Journal, edited by Professor Nathan Davis. The journal presents research on Jazz scholarship and publishes manuscripts and transcriptions of the music of internationally acclaimed musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Donald Byrd and Grover Washington Jr.
