Regional Fields
The Department of History faculty offer specialized training in four regional fields: Europe, United States, Asia, and Latin America. MA and PhD students will select a regional field and take appropriate seminars to acquire the historical, bibliographical, linguistic, and other tools that will be needed to do original historical research in that field.
Asia specialists are Martha Chaiklin, Evelyn Rawski, and Richard Smethurst.
Europe includes what was formerly called Western and East Europe, including Russia. Faculty specialists include William Chase, Seymour Drescher, Neal Galpern, Janelle Greenberg, Bernard Hagerty, Orysia Karapinka, Irina Livezeanu, Jonathan Scott, Gregor Thum, Bruce Venarde, and Joseph White.
Latin America specialists are Reid Andrews, Alejandro de la Fuente,and Lara Putnam.
United States specialists include Robert Doherty, Laurence Glasco, Maurine Greenwald, Van Beck Hall, Peter Karsten, Edward Muller, Richard Oestreicher, Marcus Rediker, Rob Ruck, and Werner Troesken.
