Sander Verhaegh
Tilburg University
Spring term 2020

Sander Verhaegh is Assistant Professor at the Tilburg Center for Logic, Ethics and Philosophy of Science (TiLPS) at Tilburg University in the Netherlands. His research focuses on the history of analytic philosophy, the history of psychology, and the philosophy of science. In his book Working from Within: The Nature and the Development of Quine's Naturalism (OUP, 2018), he reconstructs the structure and the evolution of W. V. Quine's most fundamental philosophical commitment. While in Pittsburgh, he will study the academic archives of Rudolf Carnap, Carl Hempel, and Hans Reichenbach for a book about the American reception of logical positivism.

Selected publications:

- Working from Within: The Nature and Development of Quine’s Naturalism. Oxford University Press, 2018.
- "The American Reception of Logical Positivism: First Encounters (1929-1932)". HOPOS: The Journal of the International Society for the History of Philosophy of Science, forthcoming.
- "The Behaviorisms of Skinner and Quine: Genesis, Development, and Mutual Influence". Journal of the History of Philosophy, 2019.
- "Sign and Object: Quine’s Forgotten Book Project", Synthese, 2019.
- "Setting Sail: The Development and Reception of Quine’s Naturalism". Philosophers’ Imprint, 2018.
- "Boarding Neurath’s Boat: The Early Development of Quine’s Naturalism". Journal of the History of Philosophy, 2017.
- "Blurring Boundaries: Carnap, Quine and the Internal-External Distinction", Erkenntnis, 2017.
