Matthias Unterhuber
University of Munich, Germany
Academic Year 2015-16

Matthias Unterhuber was awarded a PhD in Philosophy at the University of Düsseldorf in 2011 and since then has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Düsseldorf and Munich as well as an assistant professorship (temporary) at the University of Bern. He participated in research projects supported by the European Science Foundation and the German Research Foundation focusing on logic and probability and their import for epistemology and metaphysics (laws of nature, causality, dispositions) as well as the cognitive sciences and the neurosciences. He holds two combined bachelor-masters degrees from the University of Salzburg, one in philosophy (4-year program) and one in psychology (5-year program).

Unterhuber's current research interests include non-classical logics/formal epistemology (relevance/conditional/connexive logic, the logic of generics, Bayesianism), philosophy of science (ceteris paribus laws, theory change, Bayesianism), and philosophy of clinical psychology and cognitive science. He is a proponent of an approach that integrates logic and philosophy of science (integrated LPS). This approach takes philosophy of science as a key element element that connects traditional areas of philosophy with the sciences and humanities. These include logic, epistemology, and metaphysics.
