Admission is FREE with a valid Pitt student ID from September to April.

Adult admission, $8; non Pitt students and seniors, $5; kids under 6 are free; Thursday is 1/2 off (with exception of group tours).

Hours: Tuesday–Saturday 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; Sunday 1 p.m.–5 p.m.; closed on Monday. (Saturday hours subject to change due to occasional special events.)

The Mattress Factory is an internationally renowned museum of contemporary art that commissions, exhibits, and collects site-specific installations. One of the few museums of its kind anywhere, the Mattress Factory serves as a research and development lab where artists from around the world receive unparalleled support to explore new ideas. Resulting installations have utilized such non-traditional materials as a trash bag full of human hair, running water, balloons, three tons of damp earth, and 6,000 cans of Budweiser!

The Mattress Factory's current expansion is energizing Pittsburgh's North Side by rehabilitating buildings as exhibition/education sites and artist housing to improve the neighborhood, encourage community access, and support artistic and education programs.

Located on Pittsburgh's North Side since 1977, the Mattress Factory is hailed as the best facility for installation art in the United States.
