PITT ARTS Celebrates 10TH Anniversary Season!

In 2007-2008, PITT ARTS, a program of the University of Pittsburgh celebrates 10 years of connecting students to Pittsburgh vibrant arts scene. Over the past decade, PITT ARTS has collaborated actively with the Pittsburgh arts community, to bring the best that the arts has to offer. Through the years, the PITT ARTS Free Arts Encounters Program has provided amazing opportunities for students to meet and speak with artists with the Pittsburgh Opera, engage extraordinary soloists with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, encounter principal dancers and soloists with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and interact with the creative staff and artists from many of Pittsburgh arts organizations.

This academic year, PITT ARTS kicks off its 10th year celebration with unparalleled exciting arts offerings by continuing our successful on-campus performance lunch series, Artful Wednesdays. For four years students of Pitt’s residences halls have enjoyed an entertaining performance and a free lunch as break from the daily life of studying and classes. This year PITT ARTS partners with Student Life to bring the free series to Pitt’s newest stage in the Lower Level of the William Pitt Union. All of the Oakland campus is invited to see these plentiful and diverse performing artists, like the Joe Negri Trio, Azucar, Mama Spell, and more.

When PITT ARTS began programming in 1997, they planned a special gala with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra called “Pitt Night at the PSO.” More than 200 students, faculty, and staff joined the event, where for a small price attendees received transportation to the performance, enjoyed a dessert reception, and met the artistic staff and soloists. This year PITT ARTS is partnering with six organizations in the Cultural District to celebrate Pitt Pride and a love of the arts. The first Pitt Night will be again with their friends at the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra on September 28, 2007 for the season opening night featuring Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique. Other Pitt Nights will happen on October 19, 2007 with the Pittsburgh Opera’s production of Madama Butterfly, October 26, 2007 at Don Quixote by Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, January 26, 2008 for the Pittsburgh Public Theater’s Amadeus, February 9, 2008 at the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust presentation of the Urban Bush Women and Compagnie Jant-Bi and February 28, 2008 for the new production of The Big Bang with Pittsburgh CLO Cabaret. Tickets to Pitt Nights can be purchased through the PITT ARTS office at 929 William Pitt Union.
