Paul E. Griffiths is Professor of history and philosophy of science. Before coming to Pittsburgh he taught at the University of Sydney, Australia and Otago University, New Zealand. His research is in the philosophy of science, with and emphasis on psychology and biology. His publications include What Emotions Really Are (Chicago, 1997), Sex and Death: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Biology co-authored with Kim Sterelny (Chicago, 1999), and a volume co-edited with Susan Oyama and Russell Gray, Cycles of Contingency: Developmental Systems and Evolution (MIT, 2001). He is Associate Editor of the journal Biology and Philosophy
