A Message from Pat Simmons, President
November, 2007

Recently, I received a note of thanks that came in the form of a small booklet containing many different quotes about education and educators.  The following by Jean Piaget (1896-1980) caught my eye:  “ The principle goal of education is to create men who are capable of doing new things, not simply of repeating what other generations have done – men who are creative, innovative, and who are discoverers.”

Why did this catch my eye?  In our organization we stand at the crossroads of change and these changes are coming about with a sense of urgency. As many Chapters are folding, we are still strong and committed to moving Chapter 14 ahead to meet the needs of a new breed of educator in an ever changing educational environment.  It is the intent of your Executive Board to pull together and focus on goals that are actionable and connect to the needs of our members. It is our intent to be creative, innovative, and challenge all to think out of the box and beyond to develop clear strategies that will move us forward, connect us to a wider audience, and become the change agents that will stabilize our chapter for future members. This is our Vision.  This is our guiding force.  This guiding force will move us forward.
