CEE 2105 Advanced Topics in Civil Engineering Materials

CEE 2105, Advanced Topics in Civil Engineering Materials, is offered in the Fall Term each year to graduate students and as a Senior Elective course for students in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department.The course consists of two one hour lectures each week dealing with "leading edge" topics related to the materials used by Civil and Environmental Engineers, and a three hour Practicum session. Four basic materials property topics -- fracture, fatigue, creep, and corrosion -- are studied in the first part of the course; the remainder of the term is devoted to material-specific topics such as High Strength Steel, High Performance Concrete, the Mn/ROADS research project, SuperPave, Engineered Forest Products, Composite Materials for Bridge Construction, Geosynthetic materials, Nanophase Materials,etc. The Practicum portion of the the course consists of individual research projects which are conceived, designed, executed, and reported by the students.
