Research:

Past study: “Impact of the Introduction of a Protocol on Staff Knowledge of the Signs, Symptoms and Treatment of Hypoglycemia in an Acute Care Setting”

Current: Working with Diabetes Prevention Program at Braddock Hospital and am continuing data collection on Simulation in my undergraduate course.

Teaching:
I am the Primary Teacher for the senior level undergraduate ‘Advanced Clinical Problem solving’ course. My area of expertise is neurological/neurosurgical nursing. My course has a large simulation component which I continue to develop. Additionally, I assist in the senior level ‘Transition to Professional Nursing’ course. My past teaching experience includes Staff Development at UPMC Presbyterian, Center for Continuing Education of the University of Pittsburgh, and presentations at the local, regional, state, national, and international levels on a wide variety of topics which include: head injury, stress management, time management, grief and grieving, teaching methods, asthma, diabetes, development of a therapeutic milieu for sickle cell anemia patients, simulation in a BSN curriculum and summative evaluation using simulation in a BSN program.

Service:
I currently serve on the Diabetes Safety Committee at UPMC Presbyterian. I serve on the BSN Council, Total Faculty, Faculty Practice, Admission, Progression, & Graduation Subcommittee, and Simulation ad Hoc Committee at the School of Nursing. I have volunteered for The Compassionate Friends. I am a member of my Parish Nurse Program.

BACKGROUND:
My primary interest lies in advanced medical/surgical nursing with an emphasis in neurosurgery, general internal medicine (diabetes and asthma), and simulation. I have experience as a Staff Nurse, Staff Development Instructor, Care Manager, Unit Director, and Primary Nurse Care Coordinator in addition to my Faculty Position with the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing.
