RESEARCH:

I am currently enrolled in the doctoral program through the School of Physical Activity and plan on obtaining my PhD in Exercise Physiology. My area of interest is in obesity and patients with cardiovascular disease.

TEACHING:
My extensive teaching experience includes a hospital based nursing program where I taught foundations of nursing practice, medical/surgical nursing, and critical care nursing. I have been involved with development of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program and am currently the Program Coordinator and Manager of the Cardiopulmonary Clinical Emphasis. I am Primary Teacher for Management of Adult Episodic/Chronic Health Problems in Acute Care along with the Cardiopulmonary Clinical Emphasis course. In addition, I am involved in teaching Physical Diagnosis to both the nurse practitioner and nurse anesthetist students. I lecture to nurse practitioner students on topics related to cardiopulmonary assessment and disease as well as the role of an acute care nurse practitioner. In addition, I have lectured to undergraduate students on cardiopulmonary assessment. I maintain an active nurse practitioner practice on an inpatient cardiology service at UPMC Presbyterian. I was the recipient of the Distinguished Clinical Scholar award. This award allowed me to study issues related to reimbursement for nurse practitioner practice and to integrate this content area into the nurse practitioner curriculum.

SERVICE:
I am active in the Nurse Practitioner Association of Southwestern PA and serve as their representative to the Executive Board of the Pennsylvania Coalition of Nurse Practitioners. As a board member, I am the Chair of the Third Party Payor Committee and the Acute Care Committee. I am a member of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties and have served on several task forces dealing with development of ACNP competencies and refining the core nurse practitioner competencies. I am a peer reviewer for Critical Care Nurse and the American Journal of Nurse Practitioners. I have served on numerous committees and taskforces in the School of Nursing . Currently I am involved with implementation of the Doctorate of Nursing Practice and evidence-based practice. In addition, I have served as Chair of the MSN Council, Faculty Practice Council and am current Program Coordinator of the ACNP Program. I have published and done national, regional and local presentations on a variety of topics related to patients with cardiopulmonary disease. In addition, I have authored and co-authored articles and book chapters related to the role of the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
