Clinical Expertise:
I was a CRNA Instructor for nearly 10 years at UPMC Montefiore Hospital
prior to becoming an Instructor at the Nurse Anesthesia Program
in 1995. My clinical interests are varied as I continue my faculty
practice at UPMC Oakland, Magee-Womens OB, South Side and Monroeville
Surgery Center. I have presented at local and regional professional
meetings on Malignant Hyperthermia as well as authored and coauthored
on several topics such as pain management, latex allergy and human
simulation.
Teaching:
My academic responsibilities include teaching in nearly all
program courses. I currently coordinate Physics and Chemistry of
Anesthesia, Applied Physiology and Pathophysiology, Advanced Principles
of Anesthesia I and Physical Diagnosis. I received the Didactic
Instructor of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Association of
Nurse Anesthetists in 2000. I also participate in human simulation
education throughout the curriculum and coordinate other workshops
including regional anesthesia and difficult airway management. I
am a BLS and ACLS Instructor.
Service:
One of my primary responsibilities within the Nurse Anesthesia
Program is coordinating recruitment and the admission process.I
have served on several School of Nursing committees and
am currently a member of the Curriculum Committee within MSN
Council. I have served as a Trustee on the local nurse anesthesia
educational district. I also was a Practicum Instructor for Difficult
Airway Workshop at the 6th World Congress for American Association
of Nurse Anesthetists, 2000 in Chicago.
