The Atlantic Unbound -- One of the earliest online sites for
poetry (1993): interviews of contemporary poets, appreciations of current
and classic poets. Read Thomas Wentworth Higginson's 1891 reflections
on Emily Dickinson here.
The Guardian -- Hop across the pond to England for smart reviews,
substantial extracts from books, author profiles and literary games. All
genres, more meat, less filling commercialism.
Academy of American Poets
-- Find a poet, find a poem. Includes audio files.
Poets & Writers Magazine
-- The news and classified ads and a few articles of the current issue
are online. The archive dates to 1996. Search the online directory of
writers for data on 3,000 authors.
Verse Daily -- Another
site to visit for daily poems. Their monthly feature highlights quality
poems published orignally published in online journals.
Shaw Guides, Inc.
-- A very busy site, but comprehensive listing of writer's colonies, retreats
and conferences.
Online Journals
LitLine links -- The most comprehensive listing of print journals,
online journals, small presses, and organizations of the independent literary
community. Brought to you by The Unit for Contemporary Literature at Illinois
State University.
Blackbird --
A journal from Virginia Commonwealth University featuring poetry, fiction
and nonfiction, plus audio features published regularly.
The Drunken Boat
-- The title comes from an Arthur Rimbaud poem. The journal features essays,
interviews and poetry from all over the world.
Print Journals
Creative Nonfiction
-- The journal devoted exclusively to the creative nonfiction genre.
Brevity: a Journal of Concise Literary Nonfiction -- Brevity
publishes extremely brief literary nonfiction, focusing on detail and
scene over analysis and opinion.
Collision -- Created by undergraduate students at the University
of Pittsburgh in the Spring of 2001, and publishes student works of nonfiction
prose, poetry and art.
The Adirondack Review -- The Adirondack Review is an on-line
literary journal dedicated to publishing quality poetry, fiction, artwork,
and photography.
Caketrain -- A new literary journal from Western Pennsylvania
whose goal is to publish the very best contemporary creative writing,
regardless of length or genre.
Paper Street -- A literary journal dedicated to connecting adventurous
poets and writers to discriminating readers and critics.
Friends of nidus
The folks below have offered support in various nidus endeavors:
BOA Editions, a
not-for-profit publishing house of poetry and poetry in translation. The
website features a poem a month, audio links and details on the A. Poulin,
Jr. Poetry Prize for a poet's first book. BOA has published both established
and emerging writers, including books by Lucille Clifton, Lee Young Lee,
Kim Addonizio, and Dorianne Laux.
Sarabande Books
[best viewed in Internet Explorer], a committed publisher of poetry and
short fiction. Information on the Kathryn A. Morton Prize in Poetry and
the Mary McCarthy Prize in Short Fiction.
