It is with great sadness that we share that a tragic accident on July 9, 2009 took the life of Sandra Sell, CRNA, MSN who was a long time member of our NAP faculty, a CRNA clinical instructor at many of our sites (Braddock, PUH, MUH, Magee etc.), former Chief CRNA of UPMC PUH/MUH, mom, wife, friend, mentor, preceptor, author, simulation expert, researcher and scholar. The Nurse Anesthesia Program has five full time faculty within the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing and one full time and two part time faculty who are employed by the UPMC Health System. The faculty (shown below) are responsible for the administrative management of the program and coordinate all of the didactic coursework. A large portion of the academic classes are taught by the Program faculty but we include clinical practitioners in areas of specialty to offer students the best instruction. The Program faculty also perform clinical practice and work with students in the clinical sites on a limited basis. The Program faculty have a combined clinical experience of over 140 years to share with students! Many CRNAs and Physicians hold Adjunct Faculty and Secondary Appointments in the School of Nursing.
Each clinical site provides a Clinical Coordinator(s) that oversee the day to day clinical activities of the students. Student education in the clinical facilities is aided by the outstanding expertise of over 500 CRNAs and Anesthesiologists.
