ABOUT ME
Hi, my name is Michael Reinhart. I was born and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and attended Penn Manor High School. I am currently a Freshman
at the University of Pittsburgh, enrolled in the School of Engineering. I decided to come to Pitt for a variety of reasons, including: Oakland,
the strong engineering program, Pittsburgh sports and not really knowing where else to go. My decision to come to Pitt has been a good one, as
I feel I have not only learned about the courses I am taking, but also about life and success. I currently plan on majoring in Industrial
Engineering.
On a more personal basis, I love anything to do with sports, especially those based in Pittsburgh (Steelers, Penguins, Pirates and of course
Pitt Athletics). I played soccer, basketball and baseball in high school and love pick-up football. I also enjoy the outdoors, exercise and
fitness activities, relaxing, food, video games, music (anything from country to rock) and life in general. I tend to be a carefree, relaxed,
hard-working person that can have fun in just about any situation.
Life at the University of Pittsburgh has caused me to face many challenges and meet several new people. These challenges and people that I
have met have helped me to grow as an individual and have a greater appreciation for everything. I am hopeful that with every challenge I face
while pursueing my degree I will be able to learn from the experience.
THE PROJECT
The project my group will be working on is the Intersection Analysis for Hometown Streets Program. We will be working with our community partner,
The Oakland Transportation & Management Association
(OTMA) is non-profit organized that works to improve transportation and parking conditions in Oakland. The association works
with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to improve Oakland transportation and its goals include: increasing the
use of public transportation, providing alternate transportation for people in Oakland, and encouraging pedestrian and bicycle
transportation. In effect the OTMA works to communicate between the voice of the community and the transportation decision-makers.
