Reading Myth: Classical Mythology and Its Interpretations in Medieval French Literature.

by RENATE BLUMENFELD-KOSINSKI

Stanford University Press 1997

Reading Myth explores the appropriation and transformation of classical myth (mostly Ovidian) by medieval culture. It looks at five turning points in the reception and interpretation of mythical stories: the 12th-century romances of antiquity; the 13th-century Roman de la Rose; the 14th-century Ovide moralisé; the poetic works of Guillaume de Machaut and Jean Froissart; and at the varied literary  production of Christine de Pizan.
