This core is responsible for the oversight of the ONRC, including publicity to promote use of the ONRC, setting criteria for use of facilities, fiscal management of the grant, compilation of reports for the University and NIH-NIDDK, and management of the Pilot & Feasibility grants program and Enrichment Program.
In addition, this core manages a database of
potential research volunteers.
BODY COMPOSITION AND ENERGY BALANCE
This core facilitates collaboration among investigators conducting metabolic studies in obesity and nutrition. The core offers services for determinations of body composition, energy balance, substrate metabolism and exercise physiology and fitness assessments, including support for physical activity interventions. In addition to the services contained within the core, there is close interaction with the Adult and Pediatric GCRC, the Positron Emission Tomograph (PET) Center, and the Magnetic Resonance (MR) Research Center.
The Laboratory Core offers facilities, personnel and expertise to conduct biochemical, hormonal, genetic, tissue microscopy and GC/MS assays. This core works in close collaboration with the Heinz Nutrition Laboratory of the Graduate School of Public Health, the Human Genetics Department and laboratories, the Structural Biology Imaging Laboratory, the Endocrinology Immunoassay Core Laboratory, and with microscopy and GC/ MS facilities in laboratory space that is allocated to the ONRC. This core seeks to facilitate access to a range of laboratory methodologies for obesity-related researchers, with a main emphasis on clinical investigation.
BEHAVIOR ASSESSMENT CORE
This core provides facilities, staff, services and collaborative expertise in studies of eating behavior and physical activity, interventions to modify these behaviors, and analyses of dietary data. Also, there is a sub-core for facilitating clinical research into the neuro-biological basis of eating disorders, and more generally, appetite and satiety through application of PET imaging and functional MRI.
CLINICAL EVALUATION AND EPIDEMIOLOGY CORE
This core provides services and expertise in the collection and analysis of outcome data, in the recruitment and evaluation of research volunteers, as a nexus for medical liaison with behavioral intervention trials, and in the assessment of vascular health and cardiovascular disease in obesity and nutrition research.
This core offers expertise in methodology and
statistics to obesity and nutrition related
researchers, with an emphasis on clinical
