Mike Bennett

My name is Michael Bennett. I came to Pitt from the small coastal town of Marblehead, Massachusetts, where I enjoyed hanging out on the beaches with friends, swimming, and working at the local YMCA. I have a few strange quirks, for example I am obsesed with pirates, so every September 19th, I dress and talk like a pirate to celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Along with this, I almost always keep to the Pirate's Code. My firends and family call me nuts. I have a twin brother at West Point, also persuing engineering and a younger sister who also shares the same interests as myself. My favorite classes include math and physics, so I decided to use these strengths to apply to various engineering schools. I heard about the Pitt engineering program from my grandfather and uncle, who are both alumni. I chose Pitt because I did not want to study too close to home, but I did not want to be too far from family. My grandparents live in the Pittsburgh area so i feel close to family. My friends helped me choose engineering. I did not know what i really wanted to do so they analyzed my strenghts and here I am. I am mostly interested in mechanical engineering, but I think I need a little more time to make my decision.
