Pendulum Impact Tester (PIT)

Wheelchair Caster Crashworthiness: University of Pittsburgh

The Pendulum Impact Tester (PIT)was designed to initiate crash level loads onto wheelchair components.

The PIT is instrumented with a load cell and a linear displacement censor. Wheelchair casters are tested upon their crashworthiness and energy absorbing qualities.

The feasibility of a wheelchair mounted occupant restraint was evaluated during frontal impact (20g/30mph). Occupant safety and seat belt integrity were evaluated.

An ergonomic side stick and armrest were developed as part of my Masters Thesis. The prototype was evaluated for use in the cockpit of a Research Flight Simulator.
