Von Tschudi left a rich legacy of observations about Peru done during his fortuitous four-year stay in that country. He wrote some twenty articles and seven books, most of them published in German. They dealt in depth with Peruvian fauna, physical anthropology, recent and ancient history, archaeology, and Quechua linguistics and literature. His book Peru. Reiseskizzen aus den Jahren 1838-1842, published in 1846 had some not-so-faithful translations into English and one not-so-complete into Spanish. This 2003 version is the first to follow faithfully the original publication in its entirety and therefore is the first to allow an adequate evaluation of its contents by Spanish speakers.
