Results of the Proyecto Arqueológico El Chanal. The research project has provided for the exploration and protection of this prehispanic settlement in western Mexico, which was first explored in 1945 only to be followed by decades of disinterest. A portion of the site is now open for visiting by the public. The development of this large settlement began around 600 A.D., related to its involvement in long-distance trade.
