Analysis of Valdivia period figurines from contexts excavated at the Formative site of Real Alto, coastal Ecuador. Contains line drawings of selected figurines from the different phases of the Valdivia period, as well as detailed descriptions which include contexts from which the figurines were recovered. The author concludes that the figurines were used in shamanic rituals at Real Alto.
