Río Parita Surface Artifact Densities

The data files DENSITIES.TXT and DENSITIES.XLS contain data on the quantities of ceramics of each period recovered from each collection lot in the Río Parita regional survey and the Density-Area index calculated from them. DENSITIES.TXT is an ASCII text file; DENSITIES.XLS contains the same data in the form of an Excel spreadsheet. Each line represents one collection lot. There are 1267 lines in the text file, each with 22 variables separated by commas. The variables are, in the following order:

The first line of the ASCII text file, for example, looks like this:

A0001,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,,,,,,,,,,

This indicates that the data pertain to collection lot A0001, in which no ceramic artifacts of any phase or period were found. Therefore, no Density-Area indexes were calculated.

The last, or 1267th, line of the ASCII text file is:

B0663,0,0,0,0,0,0,1,0,0,1,0,,,,,,0.14134,,,,0.03439

This indicates that the data pertain to collection lot B0663, in which one ceramic artifact belonging to the Parita Phase and another belonging to the Late Ceramic I Period were found. The Density-Area indexes for those quantities are 0.14134 for the Parita Phase and 0.03439 for the Late Ceramic I Period.
