University of Pittsburgh The Latin American Archaeology Database expands on traditional means of publication of primary reports of archaeological research. Much of the raw data produced by archaeological research is no longer very useful on the printed page, since computers are the only practical tool for performing many of the most fundamental analyses of such data. Books on paper, however, remain an effective and economical means of communicating results of archaeological research. University of Pittsburgh Latin American Archaeology Publications, which maintains this Database, views it as an experiment in combining the advantages of these two modes of communication.
