My name is Kelvin Luu, and I like to think of myself as a believer of change. I come from a small suburb right outside Cleveland, OH, and I love it there. So many people complain about the crazy weather shifts, but I don't mind. I enjoy not knowing whether to wear a coat, gloves, and scarf, or shorts, sandals, and t-shirt from day to day. Cleveland is also unfortunately known for its deteriorating economy, therefore I want to stick around and see how I can be a part of the solution to the problems Cleveland faces because I believe I owe something to those who have influenced me for the better.
I am currently a freshman completing my second semester at the University of Pittsburgh. I can honestly say that I am quite enjoying my experience so far. I am not accustomed to walking and taking the bus everywhere in this city, but I can at least tell you that the 61A takes you downtown. Check back on this website in the future and I might just know a few more routes. I am planning on dual majoring in chemical and biomedical engineering because my scientific interests lie in learning more about the body and how I can use chemistry to improve the quality of life. I am pretty sure my interests in chemistry all started when I mixed random foods at the dinner table and made my brother taste it, but I can assure you that my reasons for majoring in chemical engineering are different now.
Growing up, I have tried many different things, which have resulted in many different interests. In addition to chemistry and biology, I began being drawn to the field of law after I participated in mock trial at my high school and here at the University of Pittsburgh. I thoroughly liked the whole process and may attend law school after my undergraduate degree is completed.
I hope you learned a little about me, I'll be adding more information soon.

The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is a tireless organization that works towards improving the quality of life for those in the Pittsburgh community by improving the wildlife around them. This semester, my team members and I will be working closely with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy to help this organization to continue its mission of revitalizing and preserving the four great parks of Pittsburgh, in particular, Schenley Park. We will be researching soil erosion and completing field work to see if Schenley park is deteriorating during rain storms. If it is, we will try to find a solution that best fits with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy's mission.
Our work will be based off of last year's team, who collected enough data for us to have a good foundation. We hope to improve upon the data to further help Schenley Park.
Please take a look to see their results.
For this project, we will be reading topographic maps from decades ago to discern whether or not there has been soil erosion in the hills of Schenley Park. These websites help one to understand how to read such maps.
