Historian Report
December 2008
The month of December is a very short and busy month for the ladies of Kappa Delta. The students of the University of Pittsburgh had finals scheduled for the week of December 8th through December 12th of 2008. During this busy week, many sisters could have been found studying in the Hillman Library or in the Cathedral of Learning – often studying together. Also, our newly elected and appointed chapter officers are successfully adapting to their new positions in the house. Our newest members have started learning about recruitment and what to expect for spring 2009 Rush. Overall, the chapter officers have been doing a lot of planning and goal setting for next semester. We all look forward to a new and exciting year.

November 2008
November 1, Girl Scout Event
Girl Scout Chair Megan Ahern organized an event with a local girl scout troop to raise money for the Greater Pittsburgh Food Drive. Our sisters teamed up with the girl scouts to help raise money for the cause by setting up in front of Giant Eagle Grocery Store, accepting both financial donations and foods from a list that customers could go pick up in the store. It was nice to teach the young girls about giving back, while also reminding ourselves about helping out around Pittsburgh.
November 7, Initiation
On November 7, 2008, the Xi Chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority welcomed fifteen new sisters into its circle. After another successful new member period, the girls were initiated as sisters, received their first sets of letters, and enjoyed refreshments while celebrating with the older sisters. The ceremony itself was beautiful in the new venue on a wonderful night. Congratulations, Fall 2008 Pledge Class!
November 15, Shamrock
The Annual KD Shamrock Powder-puff Football Game to raise money for Prevent Child Abuse America and Pittsburgh Action Against Rape was set for Saturday, November 15, but is now postponed until the spring due to weather conditions and unsafe fields. We had many donations that still went through to the cause, and although the sororities were disappointed it was cancelled, they will all be back in the spring to participate, assuring us that it is one of their favorite Philanthropy Events of the school year! We look forward to getting the event underway in the spring.
November 16, Macy’s Make-A-Wish Letters for Santa
Christmas came early for the sisters of Kappa Delta when Sisters Jenn Hagenbuch and Kristen Lauterbach led an activity after meeting where each sister was to write a letter to Santa, addressed to the “North Pole” for Macy’s Make-A-Wish Campaign. For each letter they receive, they donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Our sisters were happy to participate while having an early Christmas celebration --- eating candy, listening to Christmas music, and enjoying some down time with each other before another stressful school week as the semester winds down.
November 23, Installations
November 23rd was an exciting day for Xi Chapter when we installed a new council into Kappa Delta. After the November 16th elections, Sister Kristen Lauterbach was elected for President, Sister Emily Rastatter for VP-Operations, Sister Emily Kern for VP-Member Education, Sister Ali Michalski for VP-Membership, Sister Laura Osmolinski for Treasurer, Sister Carli Lettrich for Secretary, and Sister Janessa Jackson for Panhellenic Representative. Congratulations to the new council; we look forward to the year ahead!!
November Achievements in KD
This month was a good one for Sisters Kristen Lauterbach and Kelly Forsythe of Xi Chapter! Kristen was offered a highly competitive internship with American Eagle Headquarters in Marketing, and Kelly Forsythe will be published for the third time in Collision, a local literary magazine. These were two amazing achievements for these girls personally; and while they continue to prove how well-rounded and successful our sisters can be outside of the sorority, we are so proud to call them fellow Kappa Deltas. Congratulations, Kristen and Kelly! We also want to wish Sisters Megan Kelly, Megan Ahern, and Ashley Van Alan a safe and wonderful experience for their semester abroad in London next semester, and Sister Megan Mautz a safe trip to Australia over the Christmas holiday.
