Kafka in Prague

In 1883, Prague was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It is located in the region of Bohemia, and is now part of the Czech Republic.

German-speaking peoples were in the minority in Kafka's Prague, despite German being the language of the ruling class. As a Jew, Kafka was relegated to an even smaller minority.

Prague was Kafka's home for all but the last two years of his life.
