I.E.2001 OPERATIONS RESEARCH

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS & GROUP ASSIGNMENTS

A group project is required of all students who are taking this course. The details of the project are entirely up to you - it may be based on something at work, something with which you have experience, or some independent subject of your choice.  My primary interest is in seeing that you systematically follow the steps in a typical O.R. study.  The only requirement is that you use real data to analyze the problem you address; it could be data that you extract from a database, obtain from the web or other resources or perhaps, data that you gather personally.  I would like to have from each group a brief project proposal (two to three paragraphs on what you wish to do) by early March or so - this will allow me to ensure that your project is realistic yet nontrivial. You will then have the rest of March and over half of April to work on your project.

A detailed final project report should be handed in to me no later than 5 P.M. on Monday, April 23 - for an idea of what the report should look like, please refer to some of the project reports from prior years that I have put on reserve in the Engineering Library.  I will discuss specific report requirements and other aspects with you individually as your projects progress.

Here are the project groups that I have, along with e-mail links so that you may get in touch with each other.  Please get to know your team-mates and start talking about what you might work on!  If you have questions contact me.
