GRADING
Three examinations
will account
for 75% of the final grade, homework assignments for 15% and quizzes
for
10%. Attendance, class participation, professionalism,
regularity,
timeliness, etc. will be factors that I will definitely consider if you
are on the borderline between two grades.
OTHER COURSE POLICIES
-
Students are expected to
come prepared for
each lecture by reading the appropriate materials in the text (as noted
in the topical outline) before coming to class.
-
Every assignment is to be handed in at the beginning of class on the day on
which it is due. Late assignments will NOT be accepted
and all assignments, examinations and quizzes must be completed/taken
when scheduled - you will have plenty of time. Exceptions will
not be made unless there are
highly extenuating circumstances - please do not embarrass the
instructor
or TA by asking for routine extensions.
-
I take academic
honesty very seriously.
I have no objections if you wish to study with your friends or work
together
on homework. However, you
must write up on your own the work that you turn in, so that I
can
ensure that you understand your answers/solutions - I do NOT want to
see two identical assignments turned in if you work with a
friend! Cheating,
plagiarism or any other form of academic dishonesty will - at a minimum
- result in an F
grade for the course; no exceptions will be made to this policy.
-
If you have any disabilty
that requires special
accommodation please contact the instructor as well as Disability
Resources
and Services, 216 William Pitt Union, (412) 648-7890, at the beginning
of the term. DRS will verify your disability and determine reasonable
accommodations
for this course. A comprehensive description of the services of that
office
can be obtained at www.drs.pitt.edu..
