Welcome to my Engineering 0715 webpage! My name is Jonathan Weimer, and I am currently a freshman bioengineer here at the University of Pittsburgh. I grew up only twenty minutes outside the city in the township of Upper St. Clair along with my parents, Joe and Deb, and my sister, Michaelene. My father is an attorney for Traveler's Insurance in downtown Pittsburgh while my mother works nearby as a nurse anesthetist at UPMC Presby in Oakland. My sister is currently in her first year of law school at Duquesne University. Western Pennsylvania has been home to my family for several generations as both sides maintained strong ties with the local steel industries.
Although I am determined to earn an undergraduate degree in bioengineering, I admit that a career as an engineer has very little appeal for me. I am simultaneously completing a premed program with the hope that I will attend medical school following my undergraduate schooling. I am looking to specialize as either a radiologist or anesthesiologist, for it has long been a goal of mine to follow the path of my mother and work in a hospital helping others. I understand that I have a lot of schooling left, but I enjoy the course load that I have been given thus far in the engineering program. I couldn't be happier than I am right now as a freshman engineer at Pitt. I love my city, its culture, and of course its sports teams. If you are currently attending Pitt or live within an 80 mile radius of the city, then you have no excuse for not seeing the Penguins play in person at the historic Mellon Arena. On a final note, remember that although 2007 was an excellent year in many regards, 2008 brings with it both the 2008 Summer Olympics and EURO 2008!
