- Biomedical Engineering Society
- There are two BMES memberships...one to the Pitt BMES Student Chapter, and one to the National
Biomedical Engineering Society (as a student member). The Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) is the leading national Biomedical Engineering organization.

With the cooperation of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, the first Open Meeting of the Biomedical Engineering Society was held at the
Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Atlantic City on April 17, 1968.

- Initially, the membership of the Society consisted of 171 Founding members and 89 Charter members.
- Members include graduate and undergraduate students as well as professors and professionals.
- Why does this association exist?
The society promotes the education and diversity of the next generation of biomedical engineers, providing guidance
for their career path, and affecting leadership in the ABET accreditation process.
