What do Engineers do?

Engineers are essentially problem solvers. With a strong base in mathematics and the sciences, engineers attempt to improve living conditions. Some fields of engineering are more innovative and newly arriving such as that of biomedicine. However, others are more established. For example the area of civil engineering is focused on maintaining infrastructure--bridges, dams, and other municipalities.

  1. Aerospace Engineers
  2. Chemical Engineers
  3. Computer Engineers
  4. Environmental Engineers
  5. Nuclear Engineers

Biomedical Engineering

My area of interest is within the field of biomedical engineering. As the gap between biology, medicine, and engineering ebbs, a new type of engineer has evolved--the biomedical engineer. This area of engineering has the most prospective growth over the next few years. It seems like a rewarding area of study that advances numerous medical devices that help with illnesses ranging from diabetes to heart conditions.

Other Types of Engineers that interest me

  1. Industrial Engineers
The Industrial engineer oversees the intricacies of production within a company, including the workers, machines, and energy.
  2. Mechanical Engineers
"Engineers in this discipline work on power-producing machines such as electric generators, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines."
  3. Civil Engineers
These engineers design and oversee theconstruction of buildings, bridges, dams, and other forms of infrastucture.
  4. Electrical Engineers
"They design, develop, test, and supervise the manufacture of electrical equipment."
  5. Biomedical Engineers
Biomedical engineers combine the pedagogy of biology and medicine with the critical thinking of engineers.
