Career Services

Welcome to Career Corner….your spot for career & internship information.

The Office of Career Services provides career exploration and experiential-education opportunities, as well as career-related events during the academic year, which take place both on and off campus. 

We know that career-related topics and activities are sometimes introduced in specific courses and would like to offer our services to assist you with these efforts. We offer:

·         Career counseling and assessment tools (e.g., Discover, Myers Briggs, Self-Directed Search, Strong
       Interest Inventory)

·         Career-related workshops, both in the classroom and extracurricular

·         On-campus recruitment and job fairs

·         Resume and cover letter critique

·         Interview preparation and practice

·         Major-related speakers (particularly during Pitt-Greensburg’s Career Month in the spring)

·         On-line tools to research experiential-education opportunities and entry-level positions

·         Career Resource Library (Chambers 218)

Information Sessions will be offered to promote various off-campus events, including University of Pittsburgh Fall Job & Internship Fair, PHRA Conference, Scholars in Service, and the WestPACS Job & Internship Fair.

 

On-Campus Recruitment: Throughout the year, we will send you information and/or announce various employers who are recruiting on campus. We will send targeted emails and announcements to faculty regarding these major-related opportunities.

Opportunity: Summer Treatment Program, Community Guidance Center
Description: Full-Time/Entry-Level/Summer
Looking for motivated individuals to work at the Summer Treatment Program (STP), a behavioral modification program that serves children diagnosed with ADHD and various other behavioral or emotional diagnoses. This is a great opportunity for a summer position working with children. These positions have physical demands associated with the sports and recreational activities, many of which are conducted outdoors. One-year experience working with children and/or adolescents required. Must have  PA Criminal, FBI and Child Abuse Clearances.
Additional Information: Positions Available for: Bachelor's degree Level Counselors
Must have degree in psychology, social work, counseling, education, or criminology with one-year experience.

Amount of Scholarship:  $500
Requirements:  Pitt-Greensburg senior who has been accepted to an ALA-accredited master's program in library or information science.  (The scholarship does not cover the program at St. Vincent College, as it is not ALA accredited.)
Deadline:  April 1, 2012

La Cultura Lecture Series

Join faculty members Dr. Katrina Brown, Dr. Bado DeFranco, and Dr. Estela Llinas, as well as invited guests Dr. Kristina Pazehoski, Aurora Schmidt, and Candace Davison, as they discuss their careers in science.  Part of this year's La Cultura Lecture Series focusing on Global Feminism, this “Women in Science” panel discussion is free and open to the public.

Calendar of Events

January 25: Pittsburgh songwriter/performer/sax player Brad Yoder will perform in the Village Coffeehouse at 8 p.m. Free and open to the public.

February 4: The Center for Professional Growth at Pitt-Greensburg, in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, presents “Heart Failure” as part of the 2011-2012 Pharmacology Update Series. Presented by teleconference, the session runs from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Millstein Library (Room 250) and nurses earn three CNE contact hours. Registration is $60 per session and may be done online at www.greensburg.pitt.edu/about/cpg.

February 17: The Joan Chambers Concert Series presents Elizabeth Tomlin, pianist, in a solo recital featuring works by Scarlatti Beethoven, Chopin, and Debussy at 7:30 p.m. in the Mary Lou Campana Chapel & Lecture Center. This event is free and open to the public.
