I&L 1341 ID&T INTRODUCTION TO INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
Students develop skills in selection, evaluation, and utilization of media. Types of media, including the new interactive technologies, are studied. The course includes basic materials production and equipment operation.

I&L 1343 ID&T SMALL-FORMAT TELEVISION PRODUCTION
Deals with the basic theory and practice of television production with single-camera systems and post-production facilities. Students work in teams to produce segments using small-format television systems.

I&L 1345 ID&T SLIDE-TAPE PRODUCTION
Course covers the design and production of slide-tape presentations. Students develop visual and audio materials and then incorporate these materials into slide-tape programs using contemporary multi-screen programming devices.

I&L 1347 ID&T AUDIO PRODUCTION
Students develop audio production skills to produce instructional materials of high quality. Students are expected to learn basic audio history and physics and to become familiar with the newest recording technologies.

I&L 1348 ID&T SPECIAL TOPICS
A flexible curriculum oriented to special research topics of interest to facult or current issues of concern to educator-s. Focused on areas within programs.

I&L 1349 ID&T PHOTOGRAPHY IN EDUCATION
Emphasis on basic techniques of black and white photographic production. Students learn the specific application of these techniques to the production and presentation of slides and photographs.

I&L 1398 ID&T DIRECTED STUDY
The student proposes and carries out an independent project under the direction and supervision of an appropriate member of the faculty.

I&L 2310 ID&T SMALL-FORMAT TV PRODUCTION
Deals with the basic theory and practice of television production with small-format camera systems and post-production fcilities. Students work in teams to produce video segments for teaching/ Teaming applications.

I&L 2314 ID&T SLIDE-TAPE PRODUCTION
Course covers the design and production of slide-tape presentation, including scripting/story boarding and developing visual and audio materials that are incorporated into a slide-tape program.

I&L 2316 ID&T AUDIO PRODUCTION
Students develop audio production skills to produce instructional materials of high quality. Students learn basic audio history and physics and become familiar with the newest recording technologies. Master's students are required to do a research paper.

I&L 2318 ID&T ADVANCED PHOTOGRAPHY IN EDUCATION
Techniques of black and white photographic production and the specific application of these techniques to the design of photographic instructional materials are emphasized. Students apply visual perception principles to materials design.

I&L 2323 ID&T INSTRUCTIONAL COURSEWARE DESIGN
Introduces students to the theory of computer courseware design, including the processes and techniques required to design and produce computer-based instructional programs. Students design and program a tutorial using a selected authoring language or system.

I&L 2330 ID&T THE MUSEUM AS AN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE
An exploration of the uses of museums as a source for teaching, learning, and research from an educational point of view. An experiential approach is used to study the purposes and functions of museums and ways they may contribute to instructional processes.

I&L 2332 ID&T NON-PRINT MATERIALS
This course provides students with the search and access strategies necessary to locate curriculum materials of a non-print nature. Students develop skills in the selection, utilization, and evaluation of such materials and in establishing processes to effectively accomplish these functions.

I&L 2340 ID&T MANAGEMENT OF INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
Better organized and more readily available instructional technology is an important need in most instructional settings. This course addresses the knowledge and skills necessary for the management of instructional technology.

I&L 2348 ID&T SPECIAL TOPICS
A flexible curriculum oriented to special research topics of interest to faculty or current issues of concern to educators. Focused on areas within programs.

I&L 2364 ID&T THEORY OF INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN
Provides the theoretical knowledge necessary to the study of instructional systems design. Course moves from an overview of the field to its theoretical bases and processes. Students practice the various instructional design analysis steps.

I&L 2365 ID&T INSTRUCTIONAL SYSTEMS DESIGN (ISD)
Introductions theory about the design steps in the instructional systems design process. Students work in teams to design, produce, implement, and evaluate an instructional system for a field site. Each team prepares an instructional design report.

I&L 2370 ID&T TEAM DEVELOPMENT
Course focuses on the examination of elements that interact to enhance or inhibit the performance of groups, including management/ supervisory strategies, intrinsic/extrinsic motivation, creative problem-solving processes, and time/stress management.

I&L 2371 ID&T LEARNING AND TV NEWS
Students examine the effects of television news and how the news can best be used for educational purposes. Research in learning from television news is reviewed. Students choose one area that needs to be researched, and they explore that area.

I&L 2372 ID&T VISUAL THINKING AND LEARNING
Students learn theories about visual thinking and learning, improve their visual thinking skills and understanding of how pictures function in learning, and explore levels of meaning in pictures and effects of visual materials on instruction.

I&L 2373 ID&T CHILDREN AND TELEVISION
Areas of research related to the effects of television on children are studied. This includes variables in the environment, critical viewing skills, the effects of violence and of specific programming. Each student must plan a research project related to children and television.

I&L 2375 ID&T SCRIPT WRITING
Students develop skills and fluency in the preparation of scripts for a variety of media productions. Contemporary procedures for script writing are addressed. Students learn to use microcomputers for the production of scripts and storyboards.

I&L 2376 ID&T CONSULTING SKILLS IN INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
Explores the role of consultants and strategies for consulting on instructional technology or curriculum Projects. Students study process consulting, consultant skills, roles, and models.

I&L 2390 ID&T RESEARCH SEMINAR
The student proposes, carries out, and prepares a careful report of a study germane to the student's professional role. Required of students in MAT and MEd degree programs.

I&L 2391 ID&T SUPERVISED RESEARCH
The student works collaboratively with a sponsoring faculty member in the carrying out of a research project.

I&L 2392 ID&T CURRICULUM PRACTICUM
The student under faculty supervision participates in the design, implementation, and /or evaluation of a project in the student's professional role.

I&L 2396 ID&T CURRICULUM PRACTICUM
Master's students are placed at a field site where a professional mentor is provided, and students are given professional responsibilities. A contract is negotiated by the site supervisor and the student. An internship requires a full-time commitment.

I&L 2398 ID&T DIRECTED STUDY
The student proposes and carries out an independent study project under the direction and supervision of an appropriate member of the faculty.

ID&T 3324 ID&T THEORY OF COMPUTER-BASED INSTRUCTION
Students review the research and theory associated with computer-based instruction program design; study related newer technology, such as response peripherals and authoring languages; evaluate the instructional effectiveness of programs; and explore a specialized area of computer based instruction design research.

I&L 3325 ID&T INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA
Focuses on the design and production of interactive video, CD-ROM, and integrated media programs for instruction. Research and theory related to interactive computer-based software design and multimedia applications are addressed. Students develop a functioning multimedia package.

I&L 3342 ID&T PROFESSIONAL ISSUES
Seminar provides a forum where current issues in the field can be explored. Students identify and critically consider several social, economic, aesthetic, and technological issues. Discussion takes place in a climate of intense critical debate

I&L 3348 ID&T SPECIAL TOPICS
A flexible curriculum oriented to special research topics of interest to faculty or current issues of concern to educators. Focused on areas within programs.

I&L 3360 ID&T PSYCHOLOGY AND MEDIA
Student learn to apply psychological principles to the design of instructional materials. Emphasis f a message or a series of messages to be presented through media. Students explore an in-depth research or design problem.

I&L 3365 ID&T ADVANCED INSTRUCTIONAL SYSTEMS DESIGN
Course covers theory about the design steps in the instructional systems design process. Students lead a team that designs, produces, implements, and evaluates an instructional system developed for a field site. Team leaders must ensure the quality and integrity of the design and design report.

I&L 3367 ID&T INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES AND FORMATIVE EVALUATION
A seminar discussion format to explore research and theory associated with task analysis. Instructional strategies and formative evaluation. Theory is applied in the design of lessons in the development of a plan for formative evaluation. Students are expected to enter with knowledge and skills at the intermediate and advanced level.

I&L 3368 ID&T PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Students learn how to develop and negotiate an effective design project plan, how to implement that plan, and how to control and monitor project activities. Course participants use case studies as a basis for exercises and discussion. Each student develops a plan that meets specific criteria.

I&L 3370 ID&T TEAM DEVELOPMENT THEORY
Course focuses on an examination of elements that interact to enhance or inhibit the performance of groups. Students relate their personality profiles to these elements and examine implications for group performance.

I&L 3373 ID&T RESEARCH ON TELEVISION EFFECTS
Research on television as it affects behavior and learning. Class members will discuss programming and viewing environment as they affect children and adults of different ages. Critical viewing skills will be reviewed.

I&L 3374 ID&T COMMUNICATION AND INNOVATION THEORY
Explores areas of communication theory as they relate to the instructional design function. Students develop the ability to design communication strategies based on research and theory, as well as the communication skills needed by an instructional designer.

I&L 3391 ID&T SUPERVISED RESEARCH
The student works collaboratively with a sponsoring faculty member in the carrying out of a research project.

I&L 3392 ID&T PRACTICUM IN INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
Doctoral students are placed in field sites where they are supervised by someone on-site and by a faculty member. A contract is negotiated among student, site supervisor, and faculty member. Does not require a full-time commitment on the part of the student.

I&L 3396 ID&T INTERNSHIP IN INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
Doctoral students are placed at a field site where a professional mentor is provided and students are given professional responsibilities. A contract is negotiated between site supervisor and student. Requires a full-time commitment.

I&L 3398 ID&T DIRECTED STUDY
The student proposes and carries out an independent study project under the direction and supervision of an appropriate member of the faculty.

I&L 3399 ID&T DISSERTATION OVERVIEW
The student prepares a proposal for a detailed research study, has that proposal approved by an appropriate faculty dissertation committee, completes the proposed study, and defends the completed draft in a dissertation final oral examination.
